In preparation for United Kingdom Rescue Organisation and the Festival of Rescue 2023 in Lincoln on 14th to 16th September which will see participants from all over the UK, take part in challenges involving car extrication, water rescue, high rope rescue and much more. DS Medical were invited to spend a day with team from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue Service at their HQ in Eastleigh Hampshire on one of the hottest day in September.

Due to how hot it was, we turned up bearing gifts ice lollies for the team and hoping they were going to be kind to us.

The lollies were appreciated as they had just finished they first scenario of the day.

For the second scenario, we got to find out what it was like to be a casualty and being cut out from a car.

From time of attending and securing the scene, to extraction through the rear of a car it took 25 mins and with the heat off over 30⁰ there was plenty of sweating going from both parties.

We were in the car on its side, in the front passenger seat and extracted out of the rear window

Next scenario was a 3 vehicle incident, including a HGV with 2 casualties, which again took 20-25 mins from start to finish. This time we stood back and took plenty of pictures and below are just a couple of what we took.

We would like to thank you the Rescue Extraction Team for hosting us and a brief insight to what goes on during an RTC. Best of luck to you all at UKRO 23 and you get placed to progress onto the World Rescue Challenge 2023.
