How to prevent and control infections during Covid-19

Posted by DS Medical on 31st Mar 2020

In light of the ongoing news regarding coronavirus, Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) is vital to keep both patients and medical professionals safe.

We are all in this together and need to work collaboratively to support each other, whether you’re working on the frontline, or doing your part by staying home and abiding by government guidelines and social distancing safety measures.

At DS Medical we decided to put together a helpful guide on how to prevent infections and control the spread of bacteria.

Hygiene

Cleanliness is key. Avoid the spread of bacteria by coughing and sneezing into a disposable tissue. You must regularly wash your hands with antibacterial soap and avoid touching your face as much as possible.

If you have to leave your house to get necessities like food and medication, we recommend taking the following steps:

  1. Carry antibacterial wipes or hand sanitiser at all times.
  2. Immediately wash your hands when you get home before you touch anything.

We offer a range of anti-bacterial supplies from antiseptic hand sanitiser to anti-bacterial hand wipes. Stay safe and be sure to keep this type of equipment in your personal supply.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Personal Protective Equipment is vital for NHS staff and key workers, this equipment helps the essential services protect themselves and the lives of others.

This equipment helps to prevent cross-contamination from other people and objects that you may come into contact with, however, you must dispose of them after a single use.

One of the main pieces of equipment for medical professionals and key workers, recommended by both the World Health Organisation (WHO) and Public Health England (PHE) are nitrile gloves. Keeping clean, particularly in a professional or busy environment, is one of the best ways to reduce the risk of infection and cross-contamination.

View our full range of infection control equipment and ensure that you’re safe and equipped with the supplies you need.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the NHS and the fantastic healthcare professionals, emergency services, carers, and key workers who work tirelessly to keep our nation safe, we are eternally grateful. We will continue to play our role in doing all we can to support them.
